A Mahjong Solitaire game built around choice

Mahjong Tide is a free browser game for people who enjoy matching tiles, uncovering layered layouts and deciding what to free next. You can play one compact board or settle into a much longer session. There is no download, no required account and no countdown forcing you through a board.

What is Mahjong Solitaire?

Mahjong Solitaire is a single-player matching game played with mahjong tiles arranged in layers. A tile can be selected when nothing covers it and at least one of its long sides is open. Remove matching free tiles in pairs until the table is clear. Flowers match other flowers and seasons match other seasons, even when their individual pictures differ. The challenge is not simply finding a pair: it is choosing pairs that expose useful tiles without leaving the remaining copies trapped.

Which mode should I play first?

Flow is the easiest place to begin on a phone. Its compact layouts move directly from one Wave to the next and your progress is saved whenever you stop. Daily Art offers four sizes of one shared daily challenge, and clearing any size unlocks the featured artwork. The Journey follows Hiroshige's Tokaido through 55 stations. Free Play is for choosing a particular size and layout whenever you want a self-contained board.

Does every board have a solution?

Every new Mahjong Tide board starts with a real clearing sequence. That does not mean every move keeps the board solvable: choosing the wrong copies can still strand tiles that needed one another later. Mahjong Tide checks the position as you play. If a move makes the remaining board impossible to clear, the Winnable indicator turns red and Undo can take you back to the last position that still had a solution.

Do I need an account or an app?

No. Mahjong Tide runs directly in a modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and the core game can be played without creating an account. Local progress is saved on the device. Signing in is optional and lets progress and collections follow you between devices. The site can also be installed from a compatible browser, but installing it is not required.

Is Mahjong Tide timed or competitive?

The timer is hidden by default and there is no countdown. You can pause, think ahead, use Undo or ask for a hint. A completed board records its time and longest chain for players who enjoy improving their own runs, but speed is not required to progress, unlock art or finish the Journey. The same boards can therefore support a relaxed session and a much faster, more deliberate style of play.

How does the artwork collection grow?

Art is part of the game rather than a decorative page beside it. Daily Art features one shared work for everyone and adds it to your Collection when you clear any of the four daily sizes. The Journey reveals classic Japanese prints as you travel. Unlocked works can become the table behind future boards, so the visual character of the game changes as your collection expands.
